Spooktacular Tips for an Allergy-Friendly Halloween

By Sage Scott

Trick-or-treating with a food allergy can feel like walking through a haunted house — full of surprises, some not so pleasant. These tips will help ensure your Halloween is all treats and no tricks.

Instead of candy, offer non-edible treats like stickers, pencils, small toys, or other delights.

Offer  Non-Food Treats

Remind your pint-sized alpha-gal about the importance of not eating any treats until they’re home and you’ve had a chance to inspect their loot.

Hold a Pre-Game Briefing

Plan your route in advance and try to stick to the homes of friends and neighbors who are aware of your child’s food allergy.

Map Out Your Route

Pack some allergy-safe treats for your little monster. When they want to sneak a few treats mid-route, they can dip into their own stash.

BYOC (Bring Your Own Candy)

Once you’re back home, sort through the candy. Swap out any unsafe options with allergy-friendly alternatives.
